Couchiching First Nation is seeking a Health, Safety & Training Coordinator to join our Human Resources team. Furthermore, reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Health, Safety & Training Coordinator will support a safe, healthy, and culturally respectful workplace for all employees, community members, and visitors. Moreover, working collaboratively with the wider team, the Health, Safety & Training Coordinator identifies hazards, monitors compliance, investigates incidents, and promotes a proactive safety culture aligned with Couchiching First Nation’s values and priorities.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills, risk management skills, and accountability. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to play a key role in overseeing workplace health and safety initiatives and ensuring compliance with mandatory training requirements within the community.
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Health and Safety Committee certification or equivalent training is considered an asset.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a health and safety, compliance, or related role.
- Experience conducting inspections, supporting incident investigations, and coordinating training.
- Experience designing, developing, or delivering workplace health and safety training programs.
- Experience working in multi-department or municipal-style environments is an asset.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and workplace safety practices.
- Understanding of risk management principles and safety program administration.
- Ability to conduct inspections, identify hazards, and recommend practical solutions.
- Ability to design and facilitate adult learning programs in health, safety, and compliance.
- Strong documentation and record-keeping skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other computer applications for record-keeping, reporting, and communication.
- Understanding of and respect for Couchiching First Nations culture, values, and community.
- Prior experience working with Indigenous communities and/or organizations is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff and management.
- Must pass a vulnerable sector check.
- Valid G level driver’s license is an asset.
- Ability to provide a Criminal Record Check.
- Ability to speak Ojibway is considered an asset.
- Commitment to maintain the highest level of confidentiality at all times.
