SHOW Program Facilitator– Seasonal
Roots Community Food Centre is looking for a dynamic, hardworking individual to assist with the facilitation of our urban agriculture employment program called SHOW.
The Basics:
Job Term: Seasonal, Full time
Start: approx. mid- April, 2026 – Late October, 2026. Some weekend and evening work required.
Wage: $24.50/hr; 40 hrs/week
Location: Thunder Bay, ON

Responsibilities:
During this full-time, seasonal position, the SHOW program facilitator will work closely with a team to develop and deliver a program geared to increase employment capacity in young adults aged 18-30. Specifically, responsibilities include:
– Co-lead a 20 week supportive employment farming program for 18-30 year olds at an outdoor urban agriculture site in Thunder Bay from May through October;
– Be closely involved with the upkeep and management of a large urban farm;
– Supervise and perform all duties related to participant training, skill development and feedback with SHOW participants;
– Assist with advocacy and support for participants;
– Develop and deliver evaluation tools for trainees, community members, and other participants at the agriculture sites;
– Assist with community outreach events that promote the aims and purpose of Roots Community Food Centre throughout the season;
– Assist with on-going maintenance and care for urban agriculture sites in Thunder Bay.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:
– Experience designing and facilitating groups of varying ages, genders, cultural backgrounds, abilities and individuals who have experienced marginalization.
– Experience cooking and at least some understanding of gardening.
– Demonstrated ability to work respectfully with others, including in a facilitation role.
– Demonstrated ability to work within a diverse community (people of different ages, abilities, cultural backgrounds etc);
– Strong oral speaking, communication and interpersonal skills.
– Very comfortable and enjoy working with teenagers and adults.
– Physically able to work outdoors in all types of weather including lifting (must be able to lift 50 lbs), digging, hauling, and pushing.
– Effective communication and organizational skills.
– Valid Class G driver’s license with a clean driving record and access to a personal vehicle.
– Current first aid certification and safe food handling certification (or willingness to get before work starts).
