Job Position Overview:
Reporting directly to the Owner/ Lead Consultant, the Health & Safety Specialist will develop programming to ensure clients maintain regulatory compliance and will provide support on all Health & Safety initiatives. The Health & Safety Specialist will lead the systems management of certification, auditing, training and development processes.
Location:
The position will operate from our Thunder Bay office.
Compensation:
CA$60,000.00 – CA$80,000.00 per year
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and provide guidance on all Health & Safety policies and programs.
- Conduct field visits and site inspections.
- Coordinate and conduct employee training, including new hire orientation and Health Safety regulations.
- Create and implement Health & Safety Continuous Improvement plans for clients.
- Support disability claims management and Early Return to Work programs.
- Participate in and support inspection and audit processes ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Participate in and support the hazard identification process and incident investigations.
- Support any health & safety initiatives or certification programs.
- Plan, schedule and maintain records of all training programs and initiatives.
- Support client health and safety committees (i.e. meeting minutes, inspection documentation, etc.).
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum two years of Health & Safety experience, ideally in an industrial setting (forestry, mining, etc.).
- Completed post-secondary diploma or degree in a relevant or related field (i.e. Business, Human Resources, Forestry, Kinesiology, Occupational and Public Health).
- Maintain current Joint Health & Safety Committee certification.
- Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience working with HS Management System databases an asset.
- Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy, detail and confidentiality.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently, self starter, initiative required to act under minimal supervision.
- Strong planning skills and highly organized.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Regular work attendance is imperative and the ability to work flexible hours as required.
- Valid drivers license and use of personal vehicle may be required at times.
