Financial Controller
Morgan Fuels, a large fuel distribution company operating throughout Northwestern Ontario and Manitoba, has an employment opportunity for a full-time Financial Controller. This opportunity can be based out of Sioux Lookout, Dryden, Thunder Bay, Winnipeg, or Kenora.
This position, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, provides support for the financial direction of the Morgan Fuels group of companies, including, but not limited to:
Financial Reporting and Analysis: Managing daily transactions, overseeing month-end closing, to year-end processes to produce accurate, timely financial statements.
Budgeting and Forecasting: Coordinating with various offices to develop annual operating budgets and periodic financial forecasts, while monitoring and investigating any spending variances.
Internal Controls and Compliance: Enforcing internal control systems and best practice procedures to safeguard assets, prevent fraud, and ensure adherence to appropriate accounting standards.
Team Leadership and Management: Directly supervising, mentoring the finance staff, specific to accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR),
Regulatory and Tax Compliance: Overseeing all government reporting requirements and tax filings, including income tax, sales tax (HST/GST), and payroll remittances.
Audit Assistant: Assisting CFO with preparing working paper files, coordinating documentation requests, and implementing any findings.
Cash Flow: Monitoring daily bank balances, loan & lease payments, and forecasting cash requirements to ensure the organization meets its short-term & long-term obligations.
Strategic Support and System Optimization: Providing data-driven insights to the CFO to support corporate strategy and identifying opportunities to streamline operations.
Preferred qualifications include, but are not limited to:
University degree in business administration, commerce, mathematics or a related discipline; and
Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation.
Experience in a supervisory finance role is beneficial.
Intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite, specifically Word and Excel.
Proficient in Sage 50/Simply Accounting software.
Experience in providing input to a senior management team is beneficial.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to work under pressure and handle stressful situations.
Valid driver’s license and own transportation.
The successful candidate will be required to submit a Criminal Records Check.
