Couchiching First Nation is seeking an Energy Champion to lead renewable energy initiatives within our community, with a primary focus on implementing a carbon-free solar panel project. Reporting to the Economic Development Officer, this role will advance climate action priorities, promote renewable energy adoption, and foster sustainable practices while building local capacity and supporting long-term economic development.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong project management, communication, and problem-solving skills, with a passion for renewable energy and community engagement. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to play a key role in creating a more sustainable future for Couchiching First Nation.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Highschool diploma or equivalent education and experience is required.
  • Degree, diploma, or certification in Renewable Energy, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related field is an asset.
  • 2 years’ experience in project management preferably in energy planning, renewable energy or community development, is preferred.
  • Data collection and analysis experience is an asset.
  • Grant and proposal writing experience is an asset.
  • Prior experience working with Indigenous communities and/or organizations is preferred.
  • Knowledge of solar energy systems and renewable energy technologies.
  • Knowledge of Couchiching First Nation’s culture, traditions, and administrative operations.
  • Interest in energy conservation and sustainability.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills including the ability to create professional reports and proposals.
  • High level of attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including community outreach.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.
  • Ability to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
  • Valid Class G Ontario Driver’s License and willingness to submit a current driver’s abstract
  • Ability to speak Ojibway is preferred.
