TITLE: Residential Support Worker Direct Care Worker I
STATUS: Permanent Part Time
Number Required: (1) Position Available
Position Summary: To support people who have a developmental disability in developing lifestyles and skills to promote integration, friendships, and citizenship in the community.
Pre-Employment Responsibilities:
· Grade twelve diploma or equivalent
· Experience in supporting people living independently in the community, with a developmental disability
· Valid First Aid and C.P.R. certificates
· Valid driver’s license
· Excellent oral and written communication skills and experience using a computer
· Awareness of services and support available within the community, networks and linkages available to people who have a developmental disability
· Available for flexible hours.
Post Employment:
· Ongoing professional development through specialty workshops and courses.
Direction Received/Independent Action:
· Chooses procedures and adapts methods/process (ie: tailor methods and work procedures to suit a persons needs and requests) in the majority of work situations. Occasionally participates in development of changes to procedures and in the development of procedures based on Ministry policy.
· Works in partnership with the Adult Protective Services Worker.
·Follows policies and procedures of Superior Greenstone Association for Community Living (SGACL), Collective Agreements with regard to working conditions, employment and safety legislation.
·Work is not routine; times of work are flexible. Work independently to carry out assessments, establish Individual Support Plans and deliver programs. Medical advice with regard to health problems is available from doctors.
Supervision/Direction of Other Employees:
·Not normally responsible for supervision of others
Working Relationships:
·Community Agencies/organizations: To advocate on behalf of people when seeking services (ie: medical practitioners, service agencies)
·Family/Relatives – arrange visits and assist in correspondence
Service Authority:
·On a scheduled basis or as circumstances indicate the need, complete functional and environmental assessments for people supported.
·Assist people to utilize leisure and recreational activities.
·Assist people to schedule medical and dental appointments as required and accompany them to appointments, as needed.
·Provide emergency assistance or first aid, as needed.
·Act as a liaison with relevant human service organizations and agencies as well as with family members and friends.
·Provide transportation to local sites and/or out-of-town venues, as needed.
Service Accountability:
·Adhere to SGACL’s Employee Conduct Policy and always maintain performance ethics, including confidentiality.
·Be familiar with and adhere to the policies and procedures of SGACL.
·Meet with and participate in job performance evaluations with the Supports & Services Supervisor.
·Upgrade and maintain skills by keeping up to date in the field of employment by attending workshops and seminars, in-service training and reading relevant information.
·Provide leadership and be a role model for people supported.
·Assist people to balance their financial affairs.
·Provide a report on the results of all functional and environmental assessments completed.
·Document medical and dental visits explaining recommendations.
·Document concerns which arise concerning people supported as per SGACL’s policies and procedures.
·Record all communication with the Adult Protective Services Worker.
Shifts: Scheduled as per the current Collective Agreement.

Wage Range: Wage range as per current Collective Agreement
