About the role:

The Hospital strives to deliver care that is centred on patients and families. Reporting to the Manager of Transfusion Medicine with a Matrix Reporting to the Manager of Operating room, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, Surgical Day, Endoscopy & Preadmission; the Operations Coordinator, Blood Conservation provides clinical leadership and coordination for patient blood Conservation initiatives across the organization to improve patient outcomes, promote evidence‑based transfusion practices, and optimize the appropriate use of blood and blood products.

The Operations Coordinator, Blood Conservation works collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to implement quality improvement initiatives, deliver education, monitor utilization, support clinical decision‑making, and ensure compliance with patient safety standards and best practices across the organization.  Operations Coordinator, Blood Conservation minimizes the need for blood transfusion during surgery by ensuring patients have an adequate supply of red blood cells before their surgery.

 

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Experience:

*Diploma and/or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required.

*Unencumbered registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario

*Minimum of five (5) years recent acute care nursing experience

 

Skills/Abilities:

*Demonstrated knowledge of patient blood conservation principles, blood conservation strategies, and transfusion practices.

*Strong clinical assessment, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.

*Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

*Ability to develop and deliver education to interdisciplinary healthcare teams.

*Ability to analyze utilization data and support quality improvement initiatives.

*Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced healthcare environment.

*Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office applications and electronic health record systems.

*Knowledge of applicable healthcare legislation, standards, and patient safety principles.

Assets:

*Recent experience in perioperative services, critical care, transfusion medicine, hematology, oncology, or quality improvement preferred.

*Certification in transfusion medicine, perioperative nursing, critical care, or quality improvement.

*Experience in program development, project coordination, or change management.

*Adult education or teaching experience.

Salary Range:  $49.500 to 61.870
