RISE Event Coordinators (Part-time contract)

Hourly rate: $25 + expenses

Hinton Scaffold Solutions is developing an innovative virtual reality-based training program, called RISE, to deliver construction safety and hazard awareness training to potential, new and current construction workers with an emphasis on reaching youth, women, Indigenous persons, new Canadians and rural communities throughout Ontario.

We are currently hiring a team of Event Coordinators to support the roll-out of RISE training sessions throughout Ontario during summer 2022. This is an ideal summer job for current or recent post-secondary students with an interest in technology, education, construction and/or event management.

Event Coordinators must be based in Ontario, but we welcome applications from all regions of the province. We anticipate Event Coordinators to work between 12 and 24 hours per week; some evening and weekend work will be required.

The Event Coordinators will:
• Represent Hinton Scaffold Solutions at a variety of in-person RISE training events at locations throughout Ontario
• Lead or assist with the set-up and take-down of virtual reality kits for each training events, as well as basic room set up as needed
• Lead or assist with welcoming and checking-in of trainees
• Lead or assist with the facilitation of RISE training events, by explaining how to use virtual reality controllers and troubleshooting issues that trainees may encounter
• Identify and solve problems that may arise during events in collaboration with event hosts and the RISE team
• Assist as needed with training session follow-up, including relaying post-event reports to the RISE team and making suggestions for improvements
• Track inventory of virtual reality equipment and event supplies
• General office administration duties as needed (some office work may be performed from home)

Requirements and skills:
• Fluency in English, both oral and written
• Fluency in other languages is considered an asset
• Knowledge of computers and of basic software
• Knowledge of virtual reality systems is considered an asset
• A friendly, professional demeanor and strong interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Creative thinking and problem skills
• Excellent multi-tasking and time management skills
• Experience working with youth is an asset
• Prior experience organizing and delivering events is an asset
• A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
• Willingness to travel to locations throughout Ontario
• Ability to handle occasional heavy lifting of virtual reality kits
• Enhanced Criminal Records Check, as well as Proof of Vaccination against COVID-19, will be required upon hiring

Hiring notes:
• Preference will be given to candidates that identity as one of RISE’s target audiences
• Interviews will take place virtually starting the week of May 9
• Training for the selected candidates will take place at a central location in the Greater Toronto Area the week of May 23
